Let’s break everything and hug each other to reset, it’s been almost 100 years since World War 2 ended, it’s been too long.
That's the title of my essay and the message I want to share with you today. I know it sounds radical and maybe even crazy, but hear me out. I think we need a collective catharsis, a release of all the pent-up emotions and frustrations that have accumulated over the decades. We need to break free from the chains of history, politics, economics and culture that have divided us and caused so much suffering and violence. We need to embrace our common humanity and our shared vulnerability. We need to hug each other to reset.
Why do I say this? Because I believe that we are living in a world that is broken in many ways. A world where wars, conflicts, terrorism, poverty, inequality, injustice, oppression, discrimination, corruption, pollution and climate change are rampant. A world where fear, hatred, greed, selfishness and ignorance are driving forces. A world where we have lost touch with ourselves and with each other.
We have forgotten the lessons of World War 2. We have forgotten the horrors of fascism and genocide. We have forgotten the sacrifices of millions who fought for freedom and peace. We have forgotten the promises of cooperation and solidarity that were made after the war. We have forgotten how precious life is.
Instead of learning from history, we are repeating it. Instead of building bridges, we are building walls. Instead of resolving conflicts peacefully, we are resorting to violence. Instead of respecting diversity, we are imposing uniformity. Instead of caring for the planet, we are destroying it.
This is not sustainable. This is not healthy. This is not human.
We need a change. A radical change.
And I think that change can start with us breaking everything and hugging each other to reset.
What do I mean by breaking everything? I don't mean literally destroying everything around us or harming anyone physically or emotionally (that would be counterproductive). I mean breaking our mental barriers and our social norms that prevent us from expressing ourselves authentically and connecting with others genuinely.
I mean breaking our silence and speaking up for what we believe in and what we care about.
I mean breaking our habits and routines that keep us stuck in comfort zones and limit our potential.
I mean breaking our prejudices and stereotypes that blind us to the beauty and richness of diversity.
I mean breaking our egos and pride that make us arrogant and defensive.
I mean breaking our attachments and expectations that cause us suffering and disappointment.
By breaking everything in this sense, we can create space for something new to emerge: something more honest,
more creative,
more compassionate,
more meaningful,
more joyful.
And what do I mean by hugging each other to reset? I don't mean just physically embracing anyone randomly or superficially (that would be awkward). I mean hugging each other with intention
and emotion,
with respect
and empathy,
with gratitude
and forgiveness,
with love
and hope.
By hugging each other in this sense,
we can heal ourselves
and each other,
we can acknowledge
and appreciate
our differences
and similarities,
we can celebrate
and support
our strengths
and weaknesses,
we can inspire
and empower
each other
to grow
and change.
Hugging each other to reset is not only an act of kindness but also an act of courage.
It takes courage to break everything
and face uncertainty
and vulnerability.
It takes courage to hug each other
and open up
to intimacy
and connection.
But it's worth it.
Because by doing so,
we can create a new world.
A world where peace,
justice,
equality,
freedom
and harmony prevail.
A world where compassion,
generosity,
wisdom,
creativity
and happiness flourish.
A world where we live as one human family on one beautiful planet.
It's been almost 100 years since World War 2 ended.
It's too long.
Let's break everything
and hug each other
to reset.
